Profile

Born in 1948 in Sudbury Hill, Middlesex, my earliest ambition was to pursue a career in fine art painting. But three years at Art College resulted in a transition from the "Still" to the "Moving" image that led to a career in the film and TV industry, spanning over thirty years.

During this time, New Malden in Surrey formed the base from which I began setting down on paper, local scenes of historical architecture set in their own surroundings, within an area rich in subject matter. Composition and the feeling of being drawn into the picture by the use of foreshortening, diagonals and unusual viewpoints, have been the key elements to my work.

Pen, ink and watercolour had been the media used in attempting to achieve a feeling of history by showing the wear and tear of time on these subjects.

My areas of interest included locations such as Kingston upon Thames, Richmond, Twickenham, Hampton Court, Molesey, Barnes and Richmond Park.

The subject matter varied from landscapes such as the view from Pembroke Lodge Gardens, the famous tree-lined viewing corridor to St Paul's Cathedral, (both within Richmond Park) to the iconic Home of England Rugby, Twickenham Stadium, as well as old pubs and buildings, some of which now no longer exist, but have an important history attached to them.

One such example is the famous Eel Pie Island Hotel, Twickenham. Here in the 1950s and 60s, it became a major local venue for Trad Jazz and R&B. Many musicians famous today, cut their teeth here, including The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, Eric Clapton, Ronnie Wood, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck etc, etc. Although the hotel no longer exists, the memories of it will for many, linger on.

My artwork has been translated into limited and open edition Giclee prints, postcards, and greetings cards, along with new photographic postcards, depicting local areas of interest in and around London, which can be viewed on this website.

Now based on the fabulous North Yorkshire Coast, I am preparing to tackle new subjects that try to capture the fabulous landscapes and coastal scenes within this area, experimenting with mixed media including photography. So watch this space!
